This new 52 Liter black color Touchless Trashcan SX model uses the latest sensor technology and patented space saving lid opening design. As your hand or debris enter the zone 6 inches from the infrared sensor on top of the trash can, the lid will automatically slide open. No up or down lid motion means more capacity in less space. The lid will remain open if debris or hand is within the 6 inch range of the infrared sensor. 3 seconds after your hand moves away from the lid it closes automatically. At top front of the lid there are open and close buttons for manual operation, and there is a on/off power switch on the back of the trash can. Compared to the MX, I seem to be one of the few who would say the SX is an improvement. The 2 main criticism I read about the SX modele were: 1) the motor is inordinately loud and 2) the trash bag is more difficult to remove and prone to tearing the bag. I will admit, the motor is noticeably louder than the MX. However, a whisper-quiet can is not among my list of priorities; it's hardly as though the sound drowns out conversation, overrides the television, or interferes with my overall quality of life. If you're able to tolerate the nanosecond of noise involved, this will not be an issue. As for the second critique, I've found no difference in the bag removal system; the SX utilizes the exact same retaining ring as the MX did. My primary satisfaction is that the sliding lid allows for more flexible placement of the can; I can now place it directly under the counter overhang without fear the lid will hit the underside of my counter. The model you prefer will have everything to do with where you choose to place your can. Either way, I think the iTouchless is a wonderful invention.

Our first one worked for just a year before the closing mechanism stopped working. We tried cleaning it per instructions, no go. So we took a chance and ordered a new one. It did not work at all. We exchanged it. The second opens, but when it closes, it does not stop. We had to turn off the power switch to get it to stop. It also does not work with the adaptor for some reason, only batteries. We are returning it and will look at another model.

The gear mechanism for the sliding door is crazy loud and because the can has no liner the bag rips every time you take it out which usually means I have to put the ripped bag into a new bag. I would not recommend to anyone.

I have owned both the flip lid style and currently own the sliding lid, I would agree it is a little noisy, but the comments about "teeth" have me confused I have no such issue and I love this design much better than the flip?

This is a wonderful addition to my brand new kitchen--I put in granite counters, a new floor, and this trash can is the cherry on top. The functions all work perfectly. I love that I can just wave my hand over the top and have the auto close feature when I have the messy packaging from fresh chicken, knowing that I am not going to get sick later from the bacteria mess. There is also a button option to open that holds it open until I push the close button that provides more time. I suggest you order the cord with plug as the battery option is wasteful and isnt nearly as reliable as A/C. My guests have been very impressed--and all want one too.
