5 out of 5 stars Great Customer Service   August 29, 2010

The humidifier broke after 4 months, so I called their customer service and they told me to just cut the electrical cord and mail that in. They sent me a new humidifier after 2 weeks. It was so easy! Now, truth be told, I'm not sure how well the humidifier mists the room. I haven't tested the room's humidity. However the Vicks versions are way too noisy, and this one is silent. And I do notice my son feels better when I use it AND I see his nose drain when I use it. So it must work. Overall, it;s a good product and the Customer Service makes it an outstanding one.

1 out of 5 stars Works great for a while, craps out after one season.   August 27, 2010

Loved it at first, although keeping the mold out of the base where the water is is constant work, but maybe that's part of humidifier upkeep... this thing started flickering on and off after just one winter season :( Cute as all get out, but doesn't serve it's purpose

This is a really good choice. The product arrive as estimated and the humidifier is silence and effective. The price is worthy and the quality is perfect.

4 out of 5 stars This product does what it claims -- no more, no less.   August 19, 2010

I've had the "penguin" humidifier for over three months now and so far so good. I'm satisfied with my purchase, however I do have a few tips and caveats:

- This product does what it claims -- no more, no less.

- GO EASY on the first few nights so your body can adjust. My boyfriend stays at my place once a week. So on the first-use, the next morning he told me he had a hard time breathing, felt really sick and kept coughing. I was really worried but eventually it went away after an hour. Nothing else has changed in my room except this new humidifier so I suspect his body was not use to the humidity. Turn-down the output -- I had it a full blast!

- Use TWO HANDS when transporting the water container -- and hold it up-side-down -- yes, up-side-down. The instruction manual suggest holding it by the latch... sure that works too, but since the valve opening is actually at the bottom, you'll have dripping water as you walk to the sink to refill. On my first refill, I did exactly what the manual instructed -- simply pull the latch on top and carry it to the sink... well unfortunately, I almost slipped on my kitchen floor because it left a puddle of water trail on my return trip back to the humidifier unit. Make sure you secure the valve tight so that there's absolutely no drips as you walk back to the unit. And use the other hand to carry and reinforce the weight. It's on the heavy side.

- I suggest getting the "taller" configurations, such as the Penguin. Leave the penguin head attached so that the mist points up and circulates. Several readers noted that you get the 'feeling' of more mist because of the height. I agree. But If you remove the head then the mist flows down (and you'll have a moist carpet).

- Don't put this humidifier next to a fan or air condition or heater. The water vapors are so fine that the fan/aircon sucks the mist out and recirculates it as regular/dry air, therefore defeating the purpose of humidifying the air. Just go natural and leave this humidifier as-is, with no assistance so the water vapors won't evaporate too quickly.

- Don't put this humidifier on the floor. Place the humidifier on top of a desk or higher. Water vapors are heavier than air and so they'll float down because of gravity - resulting in a moist carpet or floor.

- Obviously, don't put your electronics, cell phones, cameras, laptops or iPods next to the humidifier... or else you'll regret it.

- A few readers noted that this humidifier is "plasticky". I agree. The plastic seems to be on the thin side too. Knock-on-wood, but if I drop the water container while refilling a full load... I can see a disaster waiting to happen.

- READ THE MANUAL. People complain about the RED LIGHT... well, if you bother to read the manual, it will tell you what it means. It's harmless and will not burn your house down. It's simply an indicator that it's EMPTY. That's all!

- Overall, I'm satisfied. Again, it does what it states.

5 out of 5 stars Worth the $ if you need a humidifier   August 16, 2010

Since receiving my Penguin design humidifier, I just loved it. Been using it for a month every night. It does help me and my son from dry cough at night even during the summer. Before having this penguin, almost every night we do cough out like chocking due to having AC that has to be on or on very low setting. If no AC, our house is very stuffy. My penguin works just fine and I set it on low setting for the mist. Very silent except a 'blurb' sound once a while from the water evaporation in the machine. It still doesn't bother us sleeping at night. Good luck trying if you are planning to get one.
