Great for laminate & vinyl floors March 8, 2010 Diana Gildner (USA) We had just removed all carpets and installed laminate & vinyl floors. We have two dogs that shed a lot.
I bought one of these and loved it.
But then it wouldn't run 5 minutes. Swiffer help is No HELP. She told me that the pad was to be used to move everything in a pile and then use the vacuum to pick up the pile. That is no where in there directions.
I finally fully discharged the batttery & recharged 3 or 4 times, then tried again. I can now vacuum two rooms thoroughly. These are inexpensive enough to buy another, so I did. With these and my Shark Carpet sweeper, I can now quickly go through my whole downstairs. I clean the filters with my big vac and change the pad, before completely discharging the swiffer vacs. Then I change the pads, plug them in and they are ready to go for the next day. I do buy off brand pads at Walmart and use both sides.
Now, I just need to get out that heavy old vac to occassionally deep clean my rugs.
Excellent Sweeper, New model differences February 25, 2010 Valentina (Fair Lawn, NJ United States) I've been using Swiffer Vac Sweeper about 2 years. I use it daily, once in the morning, once at night and more times on the weekend. I had about 5 different cordless sweepers/hand held sweepers before this one. I would buy a new one every 3-6 months because I quickly grew tired/frustrated with them. All for different reasons - they would not pick up all the dirt, were too bulky, left tiny speckles of dirt behind, etc, etc.
The Swiffer has won me over all the others. I have a long haired cat, lots of plants, hardwood floors throughout my whole apartment, and thus, have lots of cat hair, general dirt and litter around that needs pickup on daily basis. Yes, you should consider this vac disposable, it will not last 20 years as your big vacuum will, but again, it's not supposed to. My old model just died - it would not accept any more charge - the light to charge does not stay on steady, it flickers and dies.
Differences between old and new. Biggest difference is the on/off switch - they moved it from the top of the handle to the vac body - not as convenient but the vac comes on as you lightly touch the button, nothing to press. A good change - the charge button now lights on green when vac is charged, old one just went off when it was done. The color is cute - now it's a very pretty grass green. New vac came with a different charger and 2 sweeper cloths to try - they seemed thinner/flimsier than the ones at the store. The filter cartridge is the same as old vac - you can use your old filters with new model.
General use tips. I clean it every week, change the cloth and wash the filter. I now have 3 filters and interchange them. Filters that came with my 1st model now lasted 2+ years without any major visible wear. I let the vac run out of juice before I recharge. Usually it lasts about 3 days.
Won't last February 19, 2010 JC (northern Virginia) This would be a great product if it worked longer than a few months. When I first got it, I was thrilled - it picked up crumbs, cat hair and cat litter with ease. After about a month, I noticed that the battery would only hold its charge for about five minutes; that continued to decrease until now, about four months after I purchased it, the suction is completely dead and the vacuum barely even runs. I see I'm not alone in this experience; the battery seems to die after a few months' time. Hope the company takes note and improves this disappointing product.
Decent product but not worth the money.... February 17, 2010 Gav (Wilkes Barre, PA) Great at pre-cleaning laminate flooring before using the Swiffer WetJet when i first got it. Initially I thought it was good buy, but after a while the charge seemed to die faster and faster. Before long the charge would die before i finished one room (my home is 80% laminate flooring). After 6 months the charger would no longer charge the Sweeper Vac. So instead of finding out whether it was the charger or the Sweeper Vac unit that went bad, decided to invest in a better hard floor vac and ditch the Swiffer Sweeper Vac. Also the replacement sweeper clothes become costly over time just like the other swiffer products. Not worth the price of $30.00 when you can get a hard floor vac for that price or a little more that is more efficient.
Swiffer vac SUCKS! February 11, 2010 Bob Wallace (southern california) We have had our swiffer vac for about a year now. It was never all that great, but i used it for the little things it could do. We let the battery run down completely after each use and then plug it in. We never turn it on and off, always let it run completely out no matter what. The vac only runs for about 7 or 8 minutes now. The motor is so weak, all i can really pick up is dog and cat hair. This product is disappointing at best!
